Looks like a trigger guard that's been badly bent up. I'm not familiar with what gun that style guard came off of, but it looks like it had a sling swivel. The four file marks are identifying marks for the guy making the rifle/musket/shotgun. All the furniture for that particular firearm would have those same file marks so the maker wouldn't have to muck around looking for the proper fitting parts when assembling the gun.
