I had a small cold hunt this afternoon and would not normally post these pathetic items, but one item I am not sure about. I think I found a Civil War era button. The back of the button is marked Scovill Mfg Co., Waterbury and the front is an eagle facing left, looking at the button. It is not in pristine condition by any means. Anyone know for sure? Also found a cool key which my wife said is probably for some old china cabinet, part of an old gas lamp pat. July 13, 1915, and a whatsit that looks like a ball joint attached to a button. Also an old padlock made by the Grant padlock co. Couldn't find any info on the company online. I failed to say there were snow flurries flying during my hunt and it was very cold! Keep swinging and happy hunting. August 19, 2015 006.jpg August 19, 2015 002.jpg August 19, 2015 004.jpg August 19, 2015 005.jpg

Nice hunt Johncoho!! Looks like a General service button to me. Ball thingy looks familiar, maybe part of a snap? Can't tell how big it is. Cool digs!!

You know you're addicted when you are detecting in flurries. :tongue3: Those are some cool artifacts.. I found a tire valve tool like yours, only mine is complete. It's above the key in your 1st pic.

I like your old general service button. No snow here yet,and it is supposed to reach into the 70 s later this week in south -east Indiana. And maybe these old bones of mine will let me get out some.

Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure what it was.

Sorry, replied quickly yesterday before I went out, now checked it & meant to say early 20th C, not 19th.

Just so U know, when describing a "Backmark" always include any * , -, . Or any other Markings.

You got some Nice Stuff , I'm no Expert but looks like a CW ,GS button to me, to lazy to check my Book.
The Key is Sweet.
Def, Keep hunting that Site Or Sites.

Just Curious , What makes U think it's an 'Indian War's' GS Button?
Not Arguing as you may be 100% Correct.
