I found a large eagle button and also a small button with an eagle the silver quarter is just for sizing! Could someone please tell me what type of button the smaller of the two is! Inside the eagles shield on the smaller button reads ( I ) any help greatly appreciated! My cousin said the larger is a chicken button!!

It's a US military cuff button. The "I" stands for infantry. Great finds!

Thanks man

Hard to tell from the picture but the large button in the first picture looks to be from the Indian wars period and not the civil war. The small button is probably a cuff button. The button on the right looks to be a civil war period infantry button.

nice finds, good job.

Ok now I'm even more confused! Because I thought this large button was 100% civilr war not the Indian wars! Does anyone else have any info, input or some LIGHT they care to shine on this situation thanks in advance!!

Looking at the front of the buttons, the larger one, the general service button look like late 1800's around Indian War era. the Infantry button may be Civil War era up to the same time as the General Service button. if you can post what the back of the buttons read we can be more accurate of giving a date of use for them.

There nothing on the small one and on the large one it's gonna take some doing let me get my pen and pad and my loop

Tennessee Digger (Donnie) and Nova Treasure (Bill) know their historical relics. Nice finds & HH, Quindy.

your plain sheild eagle button is Post Civil War Manufacture. While the Eagle I is Pre Civil war - War time design

Sweet man thanks
