I am new to this forum and I hope that someone can help me figure this out. I was given this civil war relic/artifact about 10 years ago. I did clean it when i first got it so that the details could be seen and it has been kept in a display case ever since. It appears to me that it is a hat pin since it has 3 holes in it. It measure about 3 inches by 3 inches and could easily fit on top of a kepi hat or maybe on a strap that goes across the chest. I have never seen anything like this and I have tried to research them but I have had no luck. The relic seems to be made or a very thin metal. The people who gave it to me said that they found it at one of the Cold Harbor battlefields. Any information would be helpful even which side wore this. Thanks in advance. 20150119_230838.webp20150119_230918.webp

They look like maple leaves so if found at the battle of cold harbor my guess it belonged to a Canadian in the yankee rebellion. Not quite if its a hat pin,,,very well could be though, Almost looks like an ornamental piece from off some furniture.

I don't know what it is for sure. But I have not seen any CW hat badge like that.

I would guess that it is a ladies dress clip/buckle - late 19th to early 20th C. Leaves were a popular theme.

There was a huge nostalgia for the Civil War starting in the 1880's and going well into the 20th C. Lot's of encampments and picnics and parades held on those battlefields before they were protected by law. Hence, lots of post CW stuff in the ground with the war relics.

Here is one from the 30's or 40's:
