My soon to be Father-in-law took me on my first trip metal detecting and I found this button. After some research we believe it is a Confederate Engineers button. I was very excited to unearth this and I would love to know some more about it. Also, I am not looking to sell it at this time but would like to know what this may be valued at. Thank you in advance for any information!

What a great find!

What a way to start. Great button.
Congratulations

Really nice button, I'd be interested in knowing what it is as well.

Not only is that a confederate Engineer's button, it is pretty rare to boot. The backmark should read "W. Dowler/Superior Quality." Congratulations on a very good find. I hope you top that find on your next hunt but it will be hard to do. Here are some scans from my reference books about your button and it's maker. The second and third scans were on two different pages. The first scan shows your button as CS-154A.

That's a pretty rare button and Confederate to boot! Most people find union eagle buttons. Congrats and thanks for sharing!
