Civil war horseshoe?

Found this at a church site that a Calvary passed on or very near. How can you tell if this is a war horse or just a work horse shoe? I’m still in the cleaning process.

Yes and thanks, it doesn’t have toe clips so it pre dates civil war, I knew it was very old

Out of all the shoes our horses had put on back in the 1960's, I don't recall many with toe clips, if any.
