Found this J hook years ago and not sure what it is. I don’t see any knap sack or sword hangers that look exactly like this.
Can someone help I’d.
Found at Civil War Cavalry battle site in Maryland.
Found near shell fragment and tent spike.
Made of iron. 8670B045-541E-44C6-8DBF-64D057A8B80B.webpC1621107-E9E6-4081-AF3B-EF96716219C5.webp4B6BB927-1311-480C-AF4B-4422C450D3EB.webpA3FB03D7-34E9-44B4-95AA-0C316B9B2970.webp56601120-2A74-4299-A1BC-CAFBEEA445DC.webp

It's not a "J" hook so to speak. The "J" hooks were brass and used on knapsacks. I have dug identical equipment hooks exactly like yours in CW camps, where there is almost no trash, so it in my opinion is Civil War!

I don’t know enough about civil war stuff to know. That said, maybe a sword hanger made of iron?
