Civil War relic ID needed?

Can anyone help ID this relic? I believe it may be part of an artillery shell but not sure. It was found and dug near Murfreesboro, TN and an area where several 3 ringers have been found. Any help is appreciated, thanks folks!

I couldn't tell you what it is, but I can tell you what is isn't. It isn't part of an artillery shell. It does look like part of a fuze, but it would only have two holes, both of which were rectangular. I was going to say it might be a button, but a three inch button seems a bit big. Sorry I couldn't have been of any more help.
