Found this at a location of a known CW camp. Don't have a clue what it may be or if its even the CW era. It appears to be brass with thinner metal at the top. Thanks for any help and happy hunting.

It is a (damaged) sword-scabbard's band with hanger-ring. That particular form was manufactured before, during, and after the civil war. See photos below.
