Civil War Spur?

I found this at a Civil War camp and battle site. I know that does not make mine from the war necessarily, so I thought I'd ask folks here to help me determine if it's from the war or from the era. Thanks!

The spur itself is of the Civil War era, but the rowel has been replaced. Very cool find!

Ok. Thanks so much! How can you tell the rowel has been replaced? Is it because it's iron? Was the rowel initially supposed to be brass or something? Again, thanks!

The original rowel had many more "points" to it, and the pin that holds the rowel in place is sorta sloppy on yours, which probably indicates a field repair.

Wow! That helps a lot! Now I see what you mean about the rowel. A little homemade ingenuity gives the artifact a neat aspect- or at least I think so. Thanks!
