Can anyone help ID this civil war token? The large cent is toasted. The round ball is huge and the pewter button with a design is my first. I think the token has a George Washington bust but I can't find anything to Match the reverse. Any help would be appreciated. Sorry for the terrible photos taken from my phone. Thanks for looking

In the middle of the shield is that some sort of helmet do you think?i triedto lighten up your pic a bit to help with the details.could the bottom of the shield be an anchor? Okay Im just guessing too.Hopefully you'll get an ID on it soon from someone knowledgeable.

Ok I found a match.

That's a really nice token! Very nice set of finds--you did great again as usual...I got out for an hour or so this afternoon and it was brutally hot today again! Let's hope for some cooler weather soon in the northeast! :)Best, Erik

Fantastic token. :)

I agree way too hot. I only made it a little over two hours and had to keep finding shade. I figured I was just being sloppy and probably missing targets so I left. Can't wait till fall so I can get back to some if my other sites. Thanks for looking

That's an awesome token. Congrats!

Really cool token, congrats!

Nice finds! I have always wanted to dig up a cw token.

Very nice! What kind of token is it?

I haven't been able to find a lot of info just a George Washington patriotic token. Thanks

Glad you found one of the CW tokens, not too many ever posted. I only ever found one, a Knickerbocker Currency type.
From Wikipedia: Civil War tokens are token coins that were privately minted and distributed in the United States between 1861 and 1864. They were used mainly in the Northeast and Midwest. The widespread use of the tokens was a result of the scarcity of government-issued cents during the Civil War. (Outlawed April 1864)

If I was ever to collect by buying, it would be the CW Patriotic and Store tokens and Hard Times tokens. The CW patriotic and store tokens are a piece of history and there are many, many of them out there so not too expensive to start a collection. I thought I had your exact token in my possession right now, but cannot seem to find it in my inventory list I have for a friends collection. As you can see by the list below there are many different ones out there, and this is just what my friend has in his collection.
