Clay Pipe Stem in Chicago?

I got to some Chicago parks and met up with one of the Detecting Chicago crew- Dan Witt to detect with the Equinox 800 then I went back to Savannah for a few more short hunts. Here is my next video, "Detecting Savannah Episode 16: Chicago and Savannah." Highlight finds are the cool Chicago token and clay pipe stem found in a Chicago Park and a 18th Century broach/pin and silver thimble. I hope you enjoy?

Those are some nice finds. Chicago is an old city. What surprises me, is that the pipe stem wasn't totally obliterated over the years. I find many of those in the fields, but I'm 40 miles and a world away, south of Chicago.

GUYS smoked clay pipes a lot up into the late 1800s - some might have even in the early 1900s
they were cheaply made and cheaply bought - a lot of hunters believe that when they find pieces the size of yours
that they were hit by a plow - most times - yea, but those pipes start out at 12 inches and more - wht happens is
they tar up at the mouth piece and you cant draw well so you would put between your thumb and index finger
and snap off an inch to 2 inches and do this until you reach the bowl or start burning your eye lashes
so it could be a piece that was broken on purpose that way
I collect them when i land hunt - all relics to me - and a good sign of possible good targets
