here is what i found works well ( you're not supposed to clean old coins ) - but i really dont care lol. muratic acid ( swimming pool acid ) is cheap at any hardware store. be careful not to get it on yourself or breath fumes! wear gloves outside! submerge coin for about 5 mins., rinse with water & you're done. example:

I recently tried a mix of One tablespoon of salt in a 10 oz glass of water along with 2 tablespoons of Lime Juice. Dont leave it too long tho!
 

I tired the acid on a shield nickle i found, and wow did it work good.
