Just thought I would ask what any of you prefer to use for a finish on cut material like geodes, agates etc.. I bought a can of a clear coat aerosol and sprayed some of my not so nice stuff to see how it looked.. Not sold on it so what do any of you use? What I did spray turned out nice.. Kept a nice glossy wet look which did a decent job of enhancing the colors and clear aspects.. I'm just curious if there's something better out there.. Thoughts?

Some times you might coat a softer stone, like turqouise, for protection. But for chalcedony you just sand and polish until it gets that wet look. A coating of anything is much softer than your agate and is much easier to scratch.

Jepp, polishing with cerium oxide is generally good for quartz-related minerals. You just need to sand it fine enough first, preferably on a machine.

Thanks for the replies! Due to apartment living I don't have much space for tools and gear to work with.. Sand polishing with a small tumbler might be my next experiment it sounds like.. Thanks again..

back away from the paint brush...
if you have a stone you believe needs plastic to stabilize..well fine...but take an old wet stone for sharpening a knife...get it wet, and get to work....
