My turn to rant now. Yesterday morning I headed out to Clearwater beach to hunt the water after the weekend power boat race. No surprise to me there were quite a few hunters in the water including me but what I thought was an unusual amount of dry sand hunters too. I even saw a large group of women hunting too.

After hunting the water and when low tide had arrived I moved to the wet sand. By the time I was done I started to head back to the car which took me across the Hilton beach area where I found/saw a bunch of holes dug with the article or piece of trash laying on top of each pile of sand that was dug up. Whom ever is doing this needs to learn to take the trash with them! and, then cover up the hole they made. I have no idea who is doing this but if you make the effort to dig the hole at least pick up the trash and cover the hole. Don't put the trash back in the hole! Take it with you and discard it later.

I wish I had a camera with me so you'all could see what I'm talking about. It's obvious and ridiculous! People who stumble upon the little holes with trash laying next to them know exactly who is doing this. US the metal detectorists. I makes this hobby look bad. SO QUIT DOING IT!

You are absolutely right about that! Wait until someone's kid breaks a ankle in someone's unfilled whole. If it happens more then once I'd bet we'll start seeing signs none of us want to see. I second that.. Please fill your holes or beach hunting will be no more!

You both make a very good point....and it is NOT just the beaches that are in danger of being closed to metal detecting either! Please fill your holes in and pack the trash out with you. We have enough slobs in this world....don't be another one!

Heck I bring my trash to the nearest trash can when I'm done just so I don't have to dig it again next time I return. Why would someone want to leave it there and dig it up again next time they're there?

Don't worry, the lazy SOBs do it around here too. Several hunters in my area dig giant holes, half a$$ fill them in, and toss the trash back onto the surface. A few others just toss the trash back into the hole.

No different than the guys who trash up my favorite fishing spots with old fishing line, food wrappers, and bait containers, or the deer hunters who leave a trail of beer cans and cigarette wrappers. It only take a few to ruin it for the rest.

Dig it all. Take it all. So it shall be written. So it shall be done.

One person always ruins it for everyone. They wont get the individual, they will just ban it for everyone. We were talking to a guy that was detecting one day at Clearwater and we got on the subject of our pouches. One of us said our pouch had a large compartment for trash we dig. The guy said "Why would I carry the trash"? We walked off and left him standing there. This was an older guy that you think would know better.

We fish at a spillway off the bank and the only place to park is on the edge of a business driveway. They have never said anything about people parking there. The other day someone cleaned their car out of trash and left it IN their driveway. My dad picked up their trash, cussing whoever did it out loud. How stupid does someone have to be to do something like that. It wouldn't hurt me to knock someone like that out...in fact that's probably the only thing that would get their attention...O K Im mad again now. :angry9:

I'm glad to see that picture being used, I still am amazed at that sign. At a random park, usually they jut rub us out, but this place put up that sign, makes my desire to hunt there even more.

I was out with gatorboy few weeks back and we came across a guy detecting the dry sand and drop kicking his recovered bottle caps, Tom of those scumbags out there. As log as I do right by my morals all I can ask of another

I agree completely. Here is the Los Angeles area there a couple of the "old timers" that never fill holes and leave trash. I get tired of asking them why. One uses the excuse the gravel laid out is good so the birds have gravel to eat for their gizzards. What a lazy persons excuse. These couple guys everyone knows. If I hit a beach and see craters (sometimes 2' deep) with trash next to it, I know who was there. This same jerk says many times he is only there for the gold and not to clean the beach. I have spent many an hour filling in their holes and picking up the trash. Have had joggers and lifeguards thank me. This one jerk one also says he will never return an item. He even bragged about watching a necklace fall off a person and couldn't wait to go get it. He was sad he said when they noticed it and grabbed it before it went under the sand for good(until this jerk would go get it) I am no longer polite and have no problem telling him so any more. then add to it he doesn't cash in any gold. Just hoards it in jars at home. One great thing that we do is recycle all this gold silver etc. When you think what it takes (financially and environmentally) to mine an ounce of gold we are some the biggest conservationists out there. Good deed for me saturday was pulling a pair of forceps out of wet sand 20 ft from a kid playing. Mom thought they were scissors. Next thing I know every parent in the area was thanking me for cleaning the dangerous items so their kids wouldn't step on them.

I was cleaning up a pile of some other detectors trash left behind on the beach and found a ladies gold ring in the mix.
I always take the trash back to the truck and sort through it. Bottle caps, flip tops, fishing weights, beach glass, an arrowhead and some shinny rocks that might be a diamond in the raw.

Odd are they are not members here. I have talked to so many people when im out hunting and asked them if they had been to TreasureNet, the majority asked me "what's that?".... When I explained they said I didn't know. ...

The first thing I do when I meet someone detecting is ask if they go on T NET. Ive met a few members but like you said, most don't know about it or don't go on it regularly.

Im with all of you on this topic. I do my best to keep our beautiful state clean. Hell when I use to smoke all my cig butts went in my pocket. How to approach this problem is a tricky one. Some people just dont care. Its the all about me attitude once again. Man I hope this hobby dosent get banned. Thats like telling me I cant fish anymore. Hell they are already telling people that on the west coast. Fill yer holes and take yer find.
