Hello Indian Steve,
I believe it is silver and I can't get an accurate weight on it. At the top it looks like the piece broke off where you attach a necklace to. I believe it is a medallion.

Tis a medal of some sort... perhaps swimming or triathlon or decathlon... etc.

As the others have suggested, probably a medal of participation for a swimming event.
Nice find, I'd bet the individual who lost it was upset too.

Agree with the others. Swim competition most likely, second most likely could be lifesaving medal. Too bad the area for inscription was not inscribed with a name and date.
