Cobalt, Ont's "Silver Sidewalk!"
On Aug. 7, 1903, Two RR workers found a rich Silver Bonanza on the shores of Loog Lake,Ont. which turned out to be Native Silver, assaying
out to be 4000 oz. to the ton! By the end of 1905, there were 16 mines.
In 1904, A party of 4 prospectors discovered a vein of Native Silver along an old Portage Trail between Kerr Lake & Lake Girout. This so called
"Lawson Vein" turned out to be 18" wide, 180' deep,& 300' long! More than 10 Tons of Pure Native Silver! It quickly came to be called "The
Silver Sidewalk!" However, due to ownership disagreements, It wasn't mined till 1908. It was mined out by 1915. By 1911, 31m oz came out of the Camp.
Even today, It's possible to wander the area with a MD, picking up pieces of Silver. Many Prospectors make their expenses+ on each trip!
