Detector(s) used
EXCAL 1000
Went on a surf trip to Cocoa Beach Jan 31, 2007- Feb 3 ,2007. On my way down i decided to stop by Kellyco and check out the detectors. Armed with information from this site i already knew what was best for me, an Excal 1000. After holding it in my hands for about 2.5 seconds i knew without a doubt this was the one. After making the purchase the young lady assembled it and gave instructions on how to use it (needless to say how surprised i was on easy set up and operation of the excal 1000).So now I'm on my way to Cocoa Beach for some surfing, when i arrive at the beach no surf in sight (about 5:15 pm).
After reading the instructions on the excal i realize it takes 12- 14 hours for the first charge, well i put it on the port charger in my truck and decide to go on the pier and have a few beers.About 9:00 pm i cant take it anymore the excal must be put to use,so with detector in hand i hit the beach- The conditions are about 55 degrees, light offshore winds, partly cloudy with almost a full moon and nobody on the beach..........perfect.
Did i mention i have absolutely now experience in MD.Laugh if you must but the minute it went to the ground i thought i had already hit the jackpot, the heart begins to race and the dig begins only a couple of inches and i find it a shiny pull tab, well needless to say this happens about 50 times on my first hunt. Eventually i did dig a penny and in all honesty have never felt such excitement from finding a penny. The following day head down to Sebastian Inlet to check the surf and again no surf. Out to the beach i go with a fully charged excal 1000. I head north at the water line for about 1 mile in a straight line (with so much beach to cover i felt this was best for me and to my suprise..............the sound i have yet to hear so the dig begins and 6-8 " later i uncover a dime at the waters edge...........Only a dime to most people, but to me a dime that nobody else would have found an old and weathered dime that has more value to me than the hundred i have back home on my dresser.
To keep it short no other finds at Sebastian or Cocoa Beach to speak of unless tabs or beer tops have value.I did hit New Smyrna Beach for an hour on my way home, but again no keepers.
I will always be a surfer and it will always be my passion, but the fun and excitement i had with the excal runs a close second and will most certainly be used on a regular basis because of the lack of surf in Va Beach. i hope everyone enjoys this story as much as i enjoyed the experience.i look foreward to being a part of the TN family.

Great hobby isn't it????

Welcome to the hobby ... like the others said .. wait until this summer when the beaches are getting loaded again

Welcome, Sand! A Little advice! Read the Threads on the Net carefully! There's many years of MD here. Once you master your new Detector, the finds will show up!

Welcome to Treasure Net.

Be careful detecting on the Treasure Coast, Sebastian Inlet area. You don't want them to catch you in the water with a detector there.

Sanddig, welcome aboard TreasureNet, and congratulations on getting the Minelab Excalibur 1000. My Excal has paid for itself many times over just on the beaches between Cocoa Beach and Vero Beach. Now you do need to get the Excal wet, after all she is an underwater detector. While you can't take the detector in the water within the lease locations, there is nothing to prohibit you from diving with your detector just outside the leases, or just about any place along the Florida coast.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome to Tnet. I look foreward to hitting the beaches in Va Beach (I live in Kempsville area) and OBX, especially this summer. Also thanks for the advice about the goldenolde. When i get some finds i will post them. thanks again for everything.

Tom, are the lease areas clearly marked. if so, with what type markings

The leases are not clearly marked at all. However, you will find many of the GPS coordinates listed in a thread called "Florida" in the "leagel issues" section of TreasureNet.
