Code Of Ethics, Night Hunting?

I can name a few cities in Connecticut where I’d be VERY afraid in the dark!
dts

Unless its a "tourist" beach here...
I would definitely be a little nervous at night... All kinds of creepy crawlers come out of the woodwork. Mostly dope fiends.

Mainly speaking about our causeway beaches and the nooks and crannies... which are some of my favorite DURING the daytime.

A few years back I was into water hunting, mostly local park beaches. The parks around here close at 10:30 PM and open + - 4:00 AM(depends on park regulations).I always arrived at one particular beach at opening time. One morning upon arriving, low and behold there was someone already in the water detecting. It turned out to be a fellow --well known on the detecting web sites--that was always posting good finds. He informed me that he always hunted park beaches in the middle of the night,no competition. He was breaking the rules just to get ahead of the others. So,like the old saying, "Some people have to cheat to win".

So were the park beaches he was referring to "off limits" normally ? errr in daytime rather.. ?

AARC,
The parks here are "CLOSED","DO NOT ENTER" or "off limits",from 10:30 PM until around 4:30 AM.They are open during the rest of the day.He was sneaking in during the middle of the night against regulations.

It depends on how he got there, if he entered the beach via boat from the ocean side he didnt go ashore he didn't violate the rules.

No offense... but this is silly.

There are no more finds during the closed hours than there were during the open hours.

This "tactic" of going at night to hunt an area that was alteady hunted during the day is ummm ?

This makes zero sense... for there is NO advantage or "edge" above anyone... and IMO is late to find anything. heh

As far as "winning" by breaking the rules... in the end... he will lose.

Actually ... not true.

I am not sure on other states laws... but park boundaries include sands and submerged sands.

I agree there appears to be no "edge" to night hunting and there may be an appearance issue. But I can think of some valid reasons to go at night - such as working during daylight hours and the cooler temperatures at night. We occasionally hunt fossils at night during the summer when the daytime temps are too high. Its not my preference but it is a legal option where I go. The disadvantages include attracting insects to a headlamp and the various animals that are out at night, such as lost dogs (probably from chasing deer) and coyotes. Some animals fall off the cliffs and become disoriented and/or injured.

Walking back after a night hunt once, my son's headlamp apparently startled a groundhog in a tree and it fell from its limb, missing him by inches and slamming into the ground at his feet. Such an experience might not be best for those with heart conditions!

If I remember correctly, (researched it a long time ago so little fuzzy) your allowed to anchor no closer than 100 foot off shoreline of state park.

Im really shocked that the liberal mindset of the day has not cried out to have the parks open 24/7 so as not to discriminate against those that work night and swingshifts. Just an observation and hopefully worded to not be political. Not my intention

You do have a point.

Never really thought about it... but what you say is truth.

Discriminating against day workers... BAH AND night workers... how dare they... sheesh UN- Politically Un-correct.

Sheesh

Some parks allow over night camping with prior permission from head ranger... in designated areas only of course.

For example... there are several island parks which allow overnight camping.

I imagine if you were there camping with permission there would be no reason you could not MD while you camped.

These days if you hunt at night you are asking for harassment or trouble unless you are on rural out of sight private land.

I am not saying you cannot do it... its just not the "norm" and you will stick out and might get a visit or 2 due to the "strange activity" from various people from bums / trouble... to LEO's.

Many beaches and ALL parks close at night and are off limits... and some beaches IF open are off limits to flashlights and other lighting due to turtle nesting.

Ethics comes into play if you are doing something you should not be doing... which of course the answer would be NO... and will definitely invoke a visit from LEO's.

I use to hunt in the heart of down town Lacrosse Wi. Demo locations and sidewalk tear ups. Never been bother by anyone. I posted finds on here back then. Search for Lacrosse Wi. you might see a few.

It seems ethics isn't the issue, its trying to be a person who talks about a topic and provides cheap entertainment.

Oh and don't forget about the .00000001 percent of our population that is albino and can't go out in the day time. !!
