I recently found 3 small(aprox.size of a dime)coiled rope designed buttons. The buttons are silver looking, and have one eyelet on the back. These were found in the same location/depth,as a couple of civil war navy buttons. The buttons appear to be made from cast aluminum? How early was alum.used?Could it be another metal?Sorry,no pics at this time,Thanks,Bassstrat..Coastal S.C.

Something like one of these modern fashion buttons? Prior to the introduction of commercial electrolytic refining, aluminum was quite scarce, and it was not widely used in buttons until after the turn of the last century.
