Coin advice

I have several nice coins I've found over the years metal detecting and recently went to a coin and bullion store to sell. I feel like they are crooks. Does anyone have advice on where to sell or who to sell to? I know the coins I have are not rare or worth a whole lot but I don't want to be ripped off either. Thanks

Any dealer will only give you half of what they are worth. I’m a coin buyer and buy on eBay quite a bit. Few places have that large of a selection. I know eBay is kind of a hassle as a seller, but you will get the most exposure and best money there. If you start your auction low, enough to cover postage, you will end up with the true value of the coin. Quality pics are a must to get the highest bids. Good luck!

Think of coin and bullion stores as wholesalers; you want retail buyers. As ToddsPoint mentioned above, Ebay is one source where you will find 'retail' buyers. Another source can be your local coin club.

The pawn shops or bullion shops look at your coins as melt. PERIOD.

If not key dates or exceptional grades, it is what it is.
They look at it as just a commodity.
Buy below spot, then resell to buyers that will pay a premium on that.

It depends also on quantity. 10 oz. vs 100 oz. of weight.

If you really think that you have something worth more then do a charter membership. $25

There's lots of members that buy silver to squirrel away for a little insurance.

99 percent of coin dealers are crooks. You are better off selling online. With highly collectible stamps it is even worse.

Sell them privately, here. Get a Charter Membership, take GOOD photos and RESEARCH the coins online to see what you should expect to realize.

You might also look for and consider joining a coin collecting club in your area. It's pretty easy to find buyers in the club, and they will typically pay more than a coin shop. There are also no shipping fees, listing fees or any other fees involved in personal transactions with people in your club.
