Coin Cleaning Question

A few years back I found a large cent. I can clearly make out the head but only a few letters and no date. I think it's encrusted and that I might be able to get it clearer. I don't want to spoil it. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Don't rub it! Let it set in a little olive oil for a couple days then rinse in dish washing liquid/warm water. It may soak a lot of dirt off it.

Since this subject comes up at least 10 times a year, I suggest to the moderators (or MArc) that he put up a special section just devoted to this. If you do a search on here you will find all the answers you need to this question. 8)
