I noticed this was your very first post Dr.K - so, Welcome Aboard! You didn't list your state (or country) in your profile. So, you might consider jumping over to Sub-Forums: Select Your Area.... and selecting location information (i.e., clubs, hunts, finds, legends, maps, etc.) directly related to your state (or country).

Your coin appears to have misc. engravings and any dealer should have been able to tell you that much... because the coin was not issued that way. As for the host coin, that's impossible to say without clear pics to see if there's any remaining detail.

I can see the portrait, face in profile facing right with crown well back on head. I'm pretty sure it's not British. It has a Spanish 'look' to it to me.

Looks to be more engraved than pressed or hammered. Maybe a token of some sort?
