Excellent web site. Will keep for future reference. Sure looks like the right coin however this coin is copper and the example on worldcoingallery appears to be nickle/clad. Maybe they used the same profile on a smaller denomination copper coin. No clues on the back as it is worn smooth.

It does sort of look like the Haitian coin, but the metallic composition of that coin is wrong.

I believe it is an Italian 5-centesimi piece from the 1860s, with the portrait of Victor Emanuel II. (Not Umberto I as seen in Leon's post at the top, but rather from Romeo's post further down in that thread.) Romeo's coin is a 10-centesimi piece, but the 5-centesimi had the same design. It was about the same diameter as a British halfpenny, as you say your coin is. I'll bet y'all 5 centesimi that it's a 5 centesimi.
