Coin Star rejects..

For the last 2 years it started to add up,so I finally got a tumbler to start cleaning it.I'd say there is enough to pay for it with $$$ left over.This was the first run with coins only.

What do you guys use for an abrasive??

Nice coin haul! I use natural (unpainted) aquarium gravel, works well for me.

The first time I tumbled coins I put too much dish soap in with the mix and it turned into a mess - like a pudding.

Then of course I mixed clad & pennies and I really don't cotton to the color pink....

Another time I tried the vinegar and salt mix, didn't like that either.

So now is just use the water, gravel and just a little soap. Simpler and better.

I'd say they will be rejected!

I tumble mine for about an hour, maybe I should push it a little longer but an hour gets them spendable - but I've never spent any! I guess I'm a hoarder.

I also found that if I put too much clad or pennies in it doesn't do well - and I think the weight overloads the tumbler motor. One time with too much soap in it the cap of the drum was trying to burst open. So I'm a lot more conservative with it now.

Be sure not to overload the tumbler, either.

I used to use small gravel and Mr Clean when I began. Now I use real lemon juice and a couple table spoons of salt. I barely cover the coins with the juice. Tumble your clad 1st and then use the same mix to tumble your pennies.

Been a long time since I learnt my lesson, but I think re tumbling my clad did restore it.

I use pea gravel that I had for some landscaping it was cheaper then the aquarium gravel. I usually put a squirt of dish soap in and let it tumble for a few hours. I tumble the clad and pennies together because I dont care if the other coins are pink. Usually I roll the bigger coins and just run the pennies through the coinstar.

If I have have nicer coins I want to clean up like my wheats I tumble them in sand.

use no water just dry pecan shells all sizes.you can purchase from a good hobby shop or lapidary equipment shop. Some people use dry saw dust. Both work well.

That's the "old receipe" I use, Loco. I stumbled across it on TNET. Half hour, forty-five minutes you're done. Easy clean up as well!
