I dug this piece up at the farm today, and have no idea what it is.
I'm pretty sure it's copper. It sounds like a coin when I drop it, it's the size of a nickel, but thin like a dime. Nothing on the back side either. I think I can make out "PLAT...". There is more lettering, but too tough to read.
I tried to clean it up a bit, but was hoping someone could ID it before I scrubbed further.
I know it's a longshot, but I thought I'd give it a try.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
MM
P.S. NO, it's not a Chucky Cheese token. ;D

I'd venture a guess that its a button, missing the shank off of the back. The "plat" would be part of "plated"... I think I can see where it might have said "treble plated", a common (but old) backmark.

Ben,
You are good! I definetly see the "D" now at the end of "PLATED".
I can also make out a few letters in the word "TREBLE".
Any idea of the age?
Thanks,
MM

I roughly remember ones like listed that were from 1820-40, but take that with a grain of salt... although I'd like to figure it out before PBK wakes up. :D

As Borat would say..... "very nice."
Thank you.

Dang, the only additional info I can find would expand the date range a bit (1800-1840)... and I had to steal that from a previous post from PBK, regarding one-piece buttons. By the way, I forgot to mention: Nice find! The age beats the oldest identifiable thing I've found. :)
