Looks like the back side of a flat button with the loop/eyelet mashed flat.

Looks like an old button, I'm pretty sure that's the shank on the back there. HH

I thought button as well.... My sister discovered the letters. It is VERY thin and there is a glob of something on the back.... Almost like solder....

Yes on old button. You're looking at the back of it.

I would bet it is a button, not a coin. u can see the shank on it.

Look like most 1790-1840 brass flat buttons I have! Most of the shank fell off, but the solder and a little bit of the shank is still there. The "lettering" on it is just the backmarks of the button. Cool find! 100% sure it is a button. Maybe they melted down copper coins to make the button, but that is as close as you will get to having it be a coin lol. Buttons are very cool, I love finding them!
