I have a large coffee container full of foreighn coins, including a few from Hong Kong. Why wouldn't a modern day metal detector not pick up a metal coin?

I didn't watch the video, but I suspect that since many foreign coins are made of steel, and if you are using iron discrimination the detector would ignore it. The same goes for aluminum; if you have your machine set up to ignore pull-tabs, it might not pick up an aluminum coin. However, as long as one isn't using too much discrimination it should be able to pick up any metal coin.

I found a dollar coin from Hong Kong a while back, but I can't count it as a MD'ing find, as it was in the parking lot of the park I was about to detect, so it was a ground score via eyeball.
