these are the coins my wife & i found on an island in the detroit river, she found the large cent and flying eagle penny in may, very bad conditions and NO dates detectable, i found the 1865 indian head and " 1850 upper canada half penny last tuesday. not real great shape on the canadian either, BUT, at least a date. these are our oldest, AND,, we're still excited about them, even though the conditions are so bad. thanks for looking kenny

The big coppers are still cool, even when they're worn. Definitely exciting anyway, just to find them in any condition.

That IH is beautiful.

it's grosse ile, about 15 miles south of detroit, was hunting in woods that was a grist mill from 1780's to 1840's. there was some war or 1812 action, though very little fighting, ,i think, there. being right in the middle between canada and the US, it was probably an important area because of the waterway.. they have lots of "open areas" there if anyone cares to go there to detect.. not a lot of targets ,,or trash, but i saw a huge deer the other day. i will be going back soon. we've had some BEAUTIFUL weather lately for this time of year. thanks for reading kenny

You never know what's going to come out of a place like that with all the activity that happened since the 1700's. Even in some random field, who know what could turn up.

By the way, congrats also on the Flying Eagle. They definitely don't turn up too often.

i don't mean to blab so much, but if you look at my profile, go to hybrid, go to the right & down, you'll see grosse ile., in the river very close to canada,,, a lot of historical markers there. AND ,,,, a lot of posted "OPEN AREAS" that you can detect , as it's public land. just let us know what you find. kenny

congrats on the finds and it sounds like a nice place to detect. thanks for sharing and hh

Nice finds guys

Old coins like that will keep you hunting for more.

HH Jer

Great finds congrats.

Nice finds, in 1865 there were two different 5's on the IH penny, looks to me like you have the fancy 5 on yours! Gotta be some fur trade items around as well. Good spot.

Nice finds and the IH looks to be in great shape. Detroit is an old, famous city and there should be a lot of oldies around there.
