They've arranged a field trip for members to Dallas, labor day weekend.
I've read last year they were finding huge ammonite(10-40 lb) in some river and creek beds.
Really want to go, but its still likely be in the 90's then in Dallas. Just can't enjoy outings in the heat.
I was in Dallas last October to collect crinoid stems. Picked up about 50-60 (half to 3 inch) pieces in about 3 hours. It was fun but still very hot! About 84-86. I didn't know of the ammonites finds then in the area.
Has anyone collected there? Someone said they are cool, but most finds look like plaster molds or cement, from weathering.
Driving to Keokuk Ia. (11 hour drive) the last week of Sept. to collect geodes. Think I'll pass on Dallas till Nov-Dec. or next spring.
