Check the diameter. Almost looks like a large cent or half cent wreath. If the diameter is about 23 mm, then you have a half cent. A large cent has a diameter of 26 to 29 mm depending on the year made. Clean it up gently with some water and a soft toothbrush and we'll know more. - JHinPA

If you see a 16 inside the wreath it isnt a large cent or a halfcent. Need a cleaner pic to know for sure.

Over the weekend I found my first coin. It was on a site which was inhabited from 1620's to the 1640's. It is a Native American site and has yet to produce any coins that I know of. No one metal detects there. Anyway the coin is a perfect match to the silver one in the bottom right in the corner of the picture, except mine is copper. There are no markings anywhere on it. The traders there at the site were Dutch. I too am wondering what that coin is since it will lead me to know what my coin is. It is approximately the size of a penny but half as thick. I would like a positive ID on it. I am giving it to my cousin who got me started on artifact hunting and metal detecting.

On that site I have also found 2 small silver colored hawk bells, over a half dozen metal arrow heads, an iron needle, trade knife with a groove on each side of the blade, a section of a brass breast plate, a copper bead, and what I think is a copper pendant with two holes drilled through it. I have also found a bunch of flint points, wampum, and trade beads. I will make a thread with photos of my collection.
