Got these two items this morning in an eastern Massachusetts colonial field. Both about 10" deep. One had Chinese characters on it. I did additional cleaning after I took the picture. I can now see scales. Maybe from a dragon. I believe I am also seeing claws. Need to ask a Chinese coworker if she can read the characters. Also it became white when dried (old lead???). Any idea what it might be?
The other one could be a button. It's either lead or pewter. I believe I can see where the shank might have been. What do you think? Thanks in advance for your help.

Update: asked a Chinese speaking person to translate the characters. Means "Happiness".
