Colonial finds today (Flintlock Pistol Butt Plate)

Me and my buddy hit a great spot today.He found some very nice buttons, and i did pretty good myself..I found some old buttons ,a few bullets and some coin i can't tell what it is yet.And also my (find of the day the big piece) What is it?? It has file marks on the edge looks to be handmade..

Thanks baggins and pleh for the help..I found out the coin is a 1723 rosa americana ..In very bad shape ,i can make out the rose/flower and crown on the back.. Something like this, but in very bad shape..Im going back today.... Maybe i can get a good one,and the rest of that gun
