In my initial post I neglected to post these finds on my hunting recap with Vino, I now have the pictures. 1st is a "JK & Smith Leed" lead seal. Yes, it's Leed and not lead. Not sure of the date so if anyone knows it would be helpful. Next find was a pen knife with some wood still attached. Any dates would also be helpful. To round out the hunt I found an old iron key, a button, and another unmarked lead seal. Of course these were also accompanied by KG3's on my other posting.

Thanks again Vino.

Nice finds,How old is that colonial site?

Nice going on the seal, what's the round one with the hole below the watch winder?

The site dated to 1701 and the current structure dates 1804. You could feel the oldness all around!

vino thought it is a flat button with the shank popped out. Any thoughts?

That one isn't part of a pocket watch, its a watch winder, missing the stone, also the round thing is a flat button missing the shank, they pop a hole right in them..
I think that the missing part of my lead seal...Hey I want that back..lol..
It was fun hunting with you, look forward to getting out with you again
.

I can tell you its a Cloth Seal, good condition as well.

I can't find much on cloth seals. What were they exactly Cru?

Lead Cloth Seals were to seal bundles of cloth (Raw material) for export. They were often used for tax purposes but they can show the quality & quantity of cloth or the makers marks.

I agree. One would on a site that old.
Thanks

I'm glad that you posted this. I have a seal I found about 2 years ago but didn't know what it was.
