I learned something about something "looking" like it's ready, and actually being ready.

With the weather being so nice the last few days I noticed that the snow has left the cornfield I sometimes
visit. So, I thought it might be nice to start my season with a challenging walk around the field.

But, the very first and a few holes after that I found that just underneath that beautifully snow free field was
a concrete block of ice!! :(

There were puddles and mud everywhere but just underneath, solid!

So, I picked a small rise in one area, with a southern exposure, and just walked around there for a short.

I found a lead seal, a .22 bullet, a couple mystery metals and one solid piece of bent brass. The last thing
looks a bit like some sort of straight edge, a ruler or some such. No markings. And one single clad dime.

No pictures but if anyone needs to see any of the above I'm sure I could look up a pic of a clad dime if needed. :dontknow:

Not the start I was hoping for, but, with this past winter? I'll take it! :)

I'm hoping our rain on Saturday will suck out the frost so we can hunt Sunday

I feel your guys pain. Really Do. I was in Indiana with minus 25 wind chills this last year. But I must say that 60 degrees is downright chilly here. Dead of freezing 60 degree winter (but only at night) Brrrrr

That lasted a whole 3 days this year. Thank God thats over with. 85 Degrees today with a dreary 38 percent humidity

At least we'll have plenty of water to drink. ;)

How's the drought by the way?

I was just fortunate that they are still hibernating, I wouldn't have made it in the door! ;)

3 miles from beautiful Lake Huron, going to check to see if the sand is diggable in the morning!!! I know it will be, before the "under" mud will. I still have a foot of snow in my yard!!

Good luck to you. Last I checked, the sand here was like a rock, except right at the water's edge.

I got out tonight for the firs time in 2015, talk about an early spring!! But, like you, I experienced much frozen ground as well. Such a tease! I was able to dig a few things, old bullets, a button, and some general detritus. I'm pretty sure by next weekend the dig will be ON!!!

I was afraid of that! Solid block of ice infused soil just under the mud slick!

You know the ground is still frozen when the end of the driveway floats and has water gush up thru the cracks when you step on it....my driveway...sigh.

Congrats on getting out and I finding even when you can't dig.

Here, at the waters edge, icebergs weighing several tons are beached. You just "know" where the signal will be coming from...yes...directly "under" the iceberg.

I may traipse out early tomorrow in the rain/snow, before the family is up and try putting a probe in the ground. I'm pretty sure it's not going in, but I have to try. So if you hear a horrid lament of "Nooooooooo..." It's only me.

Free icebergs anyone?

Hello Whadifind,

Yesterday, I loaded the AT Pro and Infinium in the car and went for a ride between rain storms. Unfortunately, like you found everything was still frozen.

Regards,

Professor

We haven't checked the fields yet but,for the most part our yards are thawed. Were afraid the fields if thawed will be nothing but, mud?

Say, just wondering, but has anyone checked to see if the poles are still where they used to be? :icon_scratch:

It's actually beginning to warm guys. I'll send up what I can.
