After seeing a recent post about what turned out to be a colonial watch face, I remembered finding what I thought might be part of an early pocket sundial a few years back. But now I'm not so sure. Hopefully someone will recognize this piece, and can provide a solid reference.

A sundial couldn't work with the numbers evenly spaced like a watch, right?
Maybe the back could provide clues?

Bill I think the hole is too large for the post for the hands of a watch but may be more of the right size for the sundial part that casts the shadow.

Bill I've seen a bunch of different old watches , but none that look like that
Numbers or tic,s don't match up , no gears for spring wound movement. , nothing right for a watch. IMO I know less about sundials but could be. Hh gl

There are 12 numbers evenly spaced like a clock dial.

Can we see photos of the back and a side view? Does it look as if anything ever turned?
