IDK, but with all the cool finds you've credited, what are your thoughts? I can only say one is an old Christian cross and they both look pretty old to me.

The one on the left is a seal matrix, probably from the 18th century. The cross is likely from the same time period although some 1600s relics have turned up here as well.

I don't believe it is a cross. I think it might be a buckle chape/tongue.

This one was found at Mount Vernon. Not exactly the same but you get the idea.

Matt - it may not be a cross, or a religious piece at all, but I do not think it came from a buckle. Never seen a chape like that, plus its way too thick. Thanks for your input though.

It was just confirmed by an expert that the item in question is a very early fur trade Jesuit cross, one that's usually found well to the NW of my location here in eastern VA. So that's a pretty exciting ID.
