A piece from a linked belt of those or something? To big for a waist belt so maybe some kind of wall decorations or multiple picture frame ?? The hole in each end gives me that idea. Early 20th century is what the design of it is telling me?

It has a brass fitting with iron chain links attached. I believed it was repurposed as a center piece on entrance chain. Found near a old saw mill from 1800's. Thanks for reply.

Simply based on size and shape I would guess late 19th C food serving tray. For meat, fish, or bread...
