I'm visiting my folks for the holidays and I slipped out for a couple of hours to a nearby colonial house foundation. This site has iron strewn everywhere but I was able to sniff out a few keepers.

What I'm most excited about is the whistle. It still whistles and sounds real nice. After I got home I texted some pals and they both promptly corrected me that it was a musket ramrod guide. It was later fashioned into a whistle, but in fact, started its life as a ramrod guide. A friend said it's likely early, so I'm going to assume it was fashioned into a whistle in the 18th C. Easily one of my favorite finds ever. Also dug what I believe is a bracelet. No markings, but it's made of a copper alloy.

Also found what I believe is an iron skillet, hand wrought nails, a hand wrought hatchet, a great button, and a charm or necklace piece.

A whistle video:

The rain took over after a little while and I went home to spend time with the family. My next trip out is Monday. The weather is supposed to be great and I'm super stoked to have an entire day dedicated to detecting.

Happy Holidays and good digging

Steve

Great whistle!! That's a unique find

I think you also have part of a cloak clasp there my man. I'll make a proper response later

It is a cloak clasp, I found one similar

Killer find Steve! Awesome video too. If you put your finger over the front, will it whistle louder? That might increase the pressure enough to really make that thing loud. Reminds me of hearing Abe use the whistles you brought us. Hahaha. Seriously though, that's a killer find. Repurposed things like coin whizzer's and this ramrod guide whistle are the coolest. Great hunt man and Merry Christmas.

Hey brother! I tried various combinations and it whistles loudest wide open. If I cover the end it doesn't whistle at all. Partially covered doesn't work too good either. And I'm re: to abe and his whistle...he didn't blow loud enough on purpose.

Thanks Isaac. Anything new, unusual, or personal always bring something extra. Your 1850's Jenny Lind button, for example, is a great personal find. A big fan probably adored that button.

Yeah that is a pretty cool old find.

That's a really cool find! It amazes me what soilders would do to kill a little time. Personal items like that are by far the best relics we can find. If it could only talk.

Hey thanks Rick. The patina and the repurposing from a gun part makes this a really awesome find. It's getting its own little display or something when I get home. Cheers buddy

That's an interesting thought. It's really not possible to tell when it was made and from what. It could have easily been crafted in the field during the revolution. There was both revolutionary activity and many area volunteers.
