My plan for the morning was to hit the site where I found the cut Spanish Silver on Friday. Unfortunately a large bull had other ideas so I decided to kill some time at the bottle dump near by until the cows and bull left the area. Nothing special in the bottle department but the brown Bovril bottle is neat. In the dump I also found what I think is a very old pencil. I'm not even sure what it is made out of but it is not wood, bone maybe??

By the time the livestock moved on I only had an hour left to hunt. I started where I found the Spanish and the first target was the shoe buckle...good sign. A few buttons later I had spent my allotted holiday digging time and had to head home. Finished with a French sized musketball, buttons, shoe buckle, gas fitting (i think) and some doodads. The problem with this site is there is an old site here but there are also a couple turn of the century sites very near by, not to mention it has been pasture for the past 60 years so you can find just about anything there! Still, lots of fun and a lot more hunting to do on this site.

Nice finds Romeo. Good to see someone getting out anyhow. This year has been painful for me being stuck here in Afghanistan unable to dig...and the thought of getting home in the winter and having another few months to go is torture.

Are you sure that's a pencil?

Could it be a handle for an old toothbrush? Does look like bone...

Hey Wess...stay safe over there. I never thought of a toothbrush...but that makes sense.

I really like the brass shoe buckle frame and mid-18th century blowhole button. I dug two blowhole buttons at an early site in March. That cut silver site should cough up more hidden secrets!

Blowhole buttons...never heard that name before...learn something new everyday. I knew they were old, i just wish they were a little more displayable.

You should have brought a red blanket to have some fun with the Bull." OLAY". :laughing9: The 2 time period sites are always a chore. Picking through the newer to get to the older is sometimes tedious. Looks like you have some winners. The Shoebuckle always is a welcome find . The blowhole button is also pretty awesome. If my memory serves me correctly, I believe Kyle found one earlier in the year.

I can read "Extra" but what else is written on the handle?

I'm still hoping to find a buckle some day so seeing one really gets me pumped for the next outing. Good finds...and I know you can find more.

Nice Buckle ....congrats !

DMN...Extra Fine - France is stamped into the handle. I now believe it is a child's bone handled toothbrush with extra fine bristles. Probably dates to the same era of the bottles, turn of the century (1900).

them are all great recoveries romeo...keep them coming in !! :icon_thumright:

Nice Digs. Like that shoe buckle :icon_thumright:
