Commercial Permission Obtained!

Hello All.
Recently a huge commercial building has been demolished in a busy business district. District is historic.
The building was built in 1890s, 3 stories high and encompassed 15 acres. Building had WW2 history as well. Bombs were produced.
Federal mandates required radiation testing and all concrete removed. (Building was on slab). No fill.
A friend has owned property for years. He revealed building was demolished for tax/upkeep purposes.
Sooo, now I have 15 new commercial acres to detect.
I plan on "cherry-picking" with an ETrac and ATPro.
Suggestions on tackling such a large commercial site are needed.

I recomend trying to get arial photos before demo.Every manufacturing plant had places where workers would eat,smoke etc outside.also if parking was dirt or gravel I would spend my time there.good luck ck and let us know.

If the whole 15 acres had a cement slab on it all this time, there might not be much to find.
 

Simple...Swing 2 detectors, one in each hand and make sure they both have big coils on or one has a small coil. Seen a guy on U-Tube do this with good result.
 

Up early this day, ready to hit my new permission.
Then it happened, call from work. Had to go in.
Oh well, now my dreams will be of next weekend. ;)

More info on site.
During the 1940s, uranium slugs were machined, under subcontract with a DOE contractor. The uranium slugs were machined from uranium billets!?
Anyone know what slugs or billets are?
Also, in 1988+89, radiological surveys were conducted and very little uranium was found and removed. The building was then released from additional DOE restrictions.
Then, in 1993, public attention was again drawn to this now gone facility by former workers who stated that the earlier surveys didn't include the portion of the 3rd floor where actual machining occurred?
Since, no limits or controls are in effect by the DOE. Soooo, the place is clean...
That is, until me n my ETrac glow. ;)

Well... That was a bust.
Got to site early, talked w owner and hit the field.
I decided to detect the areas I know folks congregated first. Then I cris-crossed a 5 acre area. NOT one single coin!?
Bits of brass and copper here and there. Large iron at 16"+ range.
On my way to truck, I scored a 1978 cent though! Ohhh yea!! ;)
Oh well. At least I was detecting.

Any chance you can use some old historic maps to "overlay" the current site - narrow down the surface area a bit ? Library research ?
online research ? ( likely you're doing most of this already )

Keep trying, anytime you try a whole new kind of site, you get on the job training. Try everything, grids, slow pace, fast pace. try hitting the edges of the property. I have no experience with commercial sites, but at big schools I always do best as far away from the building in the woods, if it has a woods. Good Luck, keep us posted.
 

Could you share what worked to get the permission on a commercial property? I have a spot I want to hit but it is owned by a commercial real estate and I don't want to mess up my chances by saying the wrong things. So figured if I can understand what you may have said that worked, I can be sure it incorporate something like that for the property I am looking at.
 

The one and only thing that obtained my permission, is I know the owner personally.
When I first started detecting I made the huge mistake of calling realtor's phone numbers on vacant lot "for sale" signs. Not one permission was gained. And, when an actual person answered, I was continually hit with questions of legality, what if someone gets injured or damages property, etc.
These days, I take a more personal approach if I can.
I recently used bad etiquette too. But that's another story.
