There are 5 churches in our 'charge' . National Conference assigns ministers to these rural charges and then they are responsible for pay and housing from their donations .
>About 30 years ago Conference sent our communities a new minister . Young feller , fresh out of seminary and newly married . His youth and religious fervor so enamored the communities that when he announced that his wife was pregnant and he felt he needed an increase in pay a charge wide meeting was convened to discuss this .
>The folks got carried away and voted to give him a pay raise every time he got a new child . 6 kids later he was basking in his wealth and all the churches were beginning to realize what a financial burden he had become .
>Another meeting was convened to discuss putting a cap on his salary . The sky pilot got up and addressed the crowd ,
"Children are a gift from God and we need to take care of as many gifts as he sends us ,"he declared .
>There was a large rumble from the crowd as the parishioners discussed this ammongst themselves before they voted . A loud tapping from the back of the room got everyone's attention . It was old Granny Lawson banging her cane on the floor to get attention . 94 years old and frail in body ; her mind and voice were still in full force . She addressed the minister and the congregation at the same time ,
"Preacher , rain is also a gift from God that we need to cherish . But , even the dumbest of us knows that when he sends us too much rain we better start pulling on some rubbers !"
