Okay, I am going to attend the Great Southern Beach Shootout. I am going to get a stainless steel handheld scoop and a competition beach basket.

There are three types available: Bungee cord, belt loop, and hanging belt loop. Which one do you guys use/prefer and why? They didn't have choices twenty years ago when I made one myself.

Thanks,

Cal

Belt loop. You will find that the bungee wont take the strain when you are dumping big scoops of sand into your basket. I had one last year and I had to hold and shake it as I went along. This year I made metal belt loops for it and got a wide leatherbelt from Home Depot
See ya at the hunt-it's a hoot

Thanks erickk. That makes a lot of sense. I already have numerous wide-band belts bought in the past. See you at the hunt.

Any of you guys at the GSBS last year? I was and I made a DVD of all the pictures I took. It takes about 30 minutes to view and I got some good shots. You're right it was a blast.

Mine has belt loops just like erikk's

I was there last year, had a BLAST, and already made plans attending again this year. I told my boss 3 months ago that "I am off that weekend, starting on Thursday night", I will be at Daytona early Friday, I already have my room reseverations.

I plan on wearing an additional name besides their badge I will have "Treasure_Hunter" on somewhere, probably on a ball cap, so please, if you see me, introduce yourself. I would really enjoy meeting as many as I can.

Mumszie, I would enjoy seeing your DVD of the pictures and see if I am on it. I have no pictures of the hunt or myself from last year. I am surprised they did not post more pictures of last years hunt then they did.

I would be glad to send you a copy. PM me your address. This is an amature production but there are lots of pictures.

I just got my beach basket this afternoon. I'll see you guys there.

Say hi Willie. I'll be there too again this year and my name is on the back of my shirt. BTW I live close to you. I'm in Spring Hill.

I will be there early afternoon Friday myself, look forward to meeting lots of TN members.

I will be the older, balding gentleman wearing a t-shirt and holding a detector.......Hummm, may be more then one of us that fits that discription..... :icon_scratch:

Okay, I will be the one NOT wearing black socks and sandals.... ;D

46.5 hours and counting................................

Wish I could be there. Won't make it but sounds like fun. Somebody put me a picture of the Competition Basket on here. Never heard of such and need some edjumacation.

Hey Da Chief!
My competition basket is rectangular, made of a wide mesh - large top opening - worn off your hip.. The idea is to allow the detectorist to quickly grab a bunch of sand in his/her scoop = sand which is hopefully holding a target! - and dump it into the basket and then move on to the next target without missing a beat. During these competitions, the quicker you can retrieve targets, the better... there's not even time to see what it is you may have found until you're ready to leave the field. Beep - Retrieve - Move - Beep - Retrieve - Move. The bottom of the basket has a wide piece of metal - tin, aluminum - that is curved so the aforementioned sand will slide off and away from your body - and not into your shoes!
Hope this helps!
