Detector(s) used
Minelab Explorer (is there another brand)
...no not when taking a poop. :laughing7: When detecting. Its something I think that is sometimes overlooked in a successful detecting jaunt. When I first get to a site and get to swinging I'm not really focused and concentrating on what the detector is telling me, sure I'm listening and if an obvious signal hits its a no brainer but usually I'm checking out my surrounding, seeing whose around thinking of a bunch of stuff besides concentrating on what I'm hearing from the detector. Sorta when my wife is telling me about her day, I'm half listening while shaking my head yes or grunting something out when I think the time is appropriate. ;D Same way when I'm first out swingin. It usually takes me about 20 minutes, I'd guess, to settle in and get serious. If you take the time and totally focus on what the detector is telling you and really listen for every little beep and sound you will have success. You will get those deeper iffy sounding coins, you will try different angles on targets, you will be in your own little world of detecting bliss.

Yes it is important to do so. I find myself taking a moment before I start to look at my suroundings. This can help someone to see the landscape and you can visualize what happened there over 100 years ago. Then you can find the hot spots better in an old yard etc...

I agree. When im 'tecting in the 'hood' for example, im paying more attn to my surroundings, than i am signals. Then i decide i reaally shouldnt be there. ffd

I call that "the MD zone." When you are concentrating and you think 15 minutes have passed and you glance at the time and it has been an hour and a quarter.:dontknow: I try not to look at the time too often. :help: :laughing7:

It takes me abit to get serious too. I usually get into it right after an interesting find, even if it's old junk. Love the old stuff.
