I saw on the news last night where a neighboring county man was caught digging in the confederate graveyard. He was arrested and his bounty confiscated. No wonder we're getting a bad rap and lots of places are banning our hobby. Any other morons out there? Just go ahead and shoot yourself in the head.

Where did that happen? Crazy sucker.........I bet he was a yankee!!!!

Here in East TN., (Monroe County) some low life (I don't know how many were in on it, but both happened the same weekend) dug up two of my Confederate ancestors and robbed the bodies of the buttons and buckles.
Ransom, the first name of one of them, was killed in action in Virginia in '63, and sent home to be buried.
Jesse the other one, died in 1912 and it was well known that they were buried in uniform.

A lot of others where Jesse is buried are in uniform also, but thank God so far no one has disturbed them.

Thanks, BB. It has been so long now that the rapscallion(s) will probably never get caught...........................

I feel as y'all do; If I caught someone grave robbing, they wouldn't need the police................ An ambulance......... Maybe.

Regards all!

People rob Copper wire of telegraph poles
to sell too. Dosn't have anything to do with
treasure Hunting or the hobby of Detecting :dontknow:

My guess the person caught wasn't a treasure Hunter,
just somone who's Hobby was robbery

Grave robbers, string em up! >:(

Keep us updated on this story. I hope to hear they get very long prison time.

I hope the SOB'S get haunted and I mean evil, nasty, screaming horrors haunting till the day they die.

Now that's a very real possibility, especially considering whom was robbed and where....

I was in Arkansas last week and went to the Pea Ridge battlefield. I was talking to the ranger about places to metal detect outside of the park(got a few leads but family time didnt allow any hunting) when we started chatting about people digging on national parks and someone in Georgia just got caught doing the same thing.

Unfortunately they find where they've been digging a lot down at Chickamauga Battlefield.

Of course, they are surrounded by detector shops!! :dontknow: :dontknow:

You know SP, I do not feel so bad about digging in a battlefield. It is against the law, and therefore you do those things at your own risk, but it is not the same in my book as a marked grave and those relics are not on top of a dead body, usually at least. Digging up the known resting place of a solider, Union or Confederate, for monetary gain is another matter entirely. Simple as it goes, get a rope!!!!

Since a cemetery can be considered as "community property" with all of the different families who have loved ones buried in them, couldn't one of the family members shoot the grave robbers as a matter of protecting their "property"? Just musing. :icon_scratch: >:(

Let the dead rest!

This is ridiculous, and anyone who grave robs isn't a treasure hunter, they are a criminal plain and simple.

Im sorry thats one of the lowest crulest thing anyone can do. detectorist or not major jail time i hope and come on not all of us yankees are bad. Well hope they hang him, keep us updated Thanks HH Mark
