If you want a large dowsable signal, use water, put a bottle of water on the ground and you'll connect a line with all other bodies of water within reach for the rods used.. A swimming pool, septic tanks or distant lakes make for good practice signals with big and small rods..
But if the ground is saturated with standing water signal strengths will be absorbed, or widly distributed between all the atoms.. Basically you can't dowse water while standing in water.. The same will apply with other situations, like placer fields, or gem fields, difficulty does increase when you don't have a good molecular connection strength.. Compensate with a larger signal object, to create a stronger signal line, and hope it's a good dowsing day..
