All great finds but the one in wood would make my year!
Old Dude - I know what you mean. I've been fortunate to find a few BIW in nice sandy trenches in Central Virginia, but this is the best, largest and most picturesque one ever for me. Plus I love the story. A 50 foot log, and the very spot I choose to step over it had a bullet, in the very top, in plain view. Crazy! Yes, I checked the entire 50'. No more signals. And yes, it was a pretty big thrill. BIW are getting rare (and rotten). Want you to know I like your comments and read your posts. We think somewhat alike. Plus, I'm a pretty old dude myself!
Collector - No doubt. I'm finding that - it seems like - with every passing WEEK almost, I have to go deeper into the briars and wetter into the swamps to find less than I used to out in the open. In Virginia, unless you've got a secret spot ... you have to hunt where nobody else has been willing to fight their way into. It's been worth it though.
Relic Nut - Me too. That same day, my buddy got one and he spent 20 minutes with his small folding saw cutting an 18" section out of an entire TREE in the creek, then hauling that 30 lb waterlogged hunk of wood a mile back to the truck. These long submerged trees still give up a bullet occasionally, but you sure have to be dedicated to get 'em. I just pried out the section of wood you see with my shovel. My buddy says his bullet in an intact trunk will bring 100 bucks at a relic show, where my section (small) might bring 60. I told him he can keep the extra 40 bucks.
