Cool but odd find

Found along a river bank today,says MADEIRA.heavy duty pick like object. thinking its ship related.this ship I found out was here in the late 1700's-early 1800's. any help would be appreciated.

MADEIRA around the top. was a schooner ship here of this name a long time ago.
