I did not know this until today and am passing it along. Apparently a lot of faux pearl ndcklaces had precious clasps. Picked these up for a dollar each. 14k, 18k and Platinum. Diamonds and Sapphires.

The pearls are all glass.

Might want to check into it also I think you can sell the clasps separately for a lot more money than you can with the necklace ! Just checked and pleaded listings on eBay before you cut them off. But I normally cut them off and sell them separately but I have never found 18 K or platinum

I'm always looking unfortunately the only ones I've found so far are sterling.

Beach- that makes sense to me. I can't imagine anyone would want the faux pearls at this point. I looked just now after your suggestion and it seems the clasps are sought after without the pearls.

So far I've only found sterling or rhodium looking plate clasp's on old faux strings, but I'll start to look closer. Thanks for the tip.

Tallone - yep marked. Some on back. Some on hook. Some on side of clasp.

Thanks to this post I snagged a faux pearl necklace out of Gwill today with a 14K clasp. Marked and tested. 0.5 gram 14K for $2. Thanks for the tip.

seems odd. maybe they are fakes? Tested with magnet?

No, it really is pretty common. One of the most common gold pickups I've gotten is fake pearl necklaces with a 14K clasp.

Thanks for tip! Picked this .3g 10k clasp up today.
