I found this hammer a few weeks ago. I didn't post it because it was the day I also found a silver brooch. It got lost in the excitement. However upon cleaning it, I discovered it was a pretty cool artifact in its own right. It is pitted on all four sides, the two deepest pits being on its wider sides. It shows nice wear on both ends from being used as a hammer or perhaps a grinder. As an everyday tool it would have been quite handy and is a neat artifact in its own right even if it isn't a heart stopper., Unitas

That hammer stone/maul is perfect! Awesome.
I found this one hammer stone two months ago. I'll post it later.
I'll have to get a digital camera, because it might crack the scanner!
It's like 10lbs and looks like a perfect huge dinosaur egg.
Has several impact pits. Big perfect hammer stones/mauls like yours
are hard to find! I think I've read they were mainly used for hitting wedges
that help bring down trees.

Good one, I like the tools just as much, they are a more used item and can often shed some insight as to what the NA's were doing!

Sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet!!!

I agree, a common hammer has just as much story to tell as a nice point. Thanks, unitas

Real nice.. How would that have been hafted? Either end used? Or can you tell by looking at it which end? Thanks
